Compared with a trip within Japan, an overseas business trip adds two things you cannot fix locally: travel documents (passport, visa or electronic travel authorization) and power and connectivity. Check your passport's remaining validity - many countries require six months or more - and whether your destination needs a visa or authorization, at the latest one week before departure.
For power, a plug adapter matched to your destination's outlets is essential. Most phone and laptop chargers accept 100–240V, so a voltage converter is usually unnecessary - but check before bringing any Japan-only 100V appliance.
